Turner utilized BIM’s “clash detection” system as part of their construction management services for Northern Kentucky University’s Bank of Kentucky Center. The 9,000-seat, 230,000 square foot arena houses Northern Kentucky University basketball games, tradeshows, concerts, business meetings, banquets and other events.

During preconstruction, Turner’s BIM engineers led coordination meetings with subcontractors to electronically plan each portion of the building process in a team environment. The group used 3-D modeling software on “SmartBoards” to minimize conflicts, review/revise plans more efficiently and clarify issues as needed. 

The result was only two changes made in construction to an arena that incorporated: 2,500 tons of steel, four combined miles of piping and 15,000 square feet of exterior glass.
